Big Belly Laughs
Things are a barrel of laughs around the Curio & Co. offices lately. We haven’t gotten funnier; we’ve just punched up our laugh track a little bit.
Margie’s got a pretty memorable laugh. It starts out as a throaty kind of chuckle, but then the laugh gains speed until it just hurtles out, spurting and snorting and slapping the table. And then she starts crying. You can hear the whole thing a mile away.
But this week Margie’s been hit with a mild case of laryngitis – the only thing that can stop her from talking – and we’ve had to temporarily replace her laugh with a bit of Hollywood trickery. Eddie cued up Hollywood Laugh Tracks Volumes 1 and 2, and suddenly we’re all stand-up comedians.
“I’ve got the quote from shipping.” – Volume 2, Track 16 (Mini Ha Ha)
“Can I borrow your tape?” – Volume 1, Track 40 (Good One)
“I’m going for coffee, anyone want anything?” – Volume 1, Track 4 (All Choked Up)
Volume 2, Track 4, (No He Didn’t) is always followed up by Track 5 (Yes He Did). And of course the crowd-pleaser: Volume 1, Track 17 (Flock of Giggles).
Hearing the laugh tracks all day really has made us laugh more and generally feel more lighthearted. But then we’ve also been recalling some of the funniest things we’ve ever seen – Carol Burnett as Scarlett O'Hara in a gown made of hanging curtains with the rod still attached – and that always brightens your day. What makes you laugh loudest?
