Comic-Con 2013
Hey there San Diego – we’ll see you soon!
Have you packed your bags for San Diego yet? I suppose packing to go Comic-Con is the easiest thing to do. One giant empty suitcase and you’re done! You’re going to need space for all of the wonderful books and toys you’ll be bringing back. And let’s face it: there are always tons of cool t-shirts that you’ll want to get. So don’t bother bringing more than you absolutely have to, because you can always just get it there.
We are really looking forward to Comic-Con this year. First of all, we will have copies of the new Frank and His Friend book that will debut at Comic-Con. This new special collector’s edition of Frank and His Friend is 128 pages of comics not seen in other books, and each image was selected by none other than Melvin Goodge, foremost scholar on Frank and His Friend. The book is available for pre-order here on the site, but the first time anyone will be able to hold it in their hands will be at Comic-Con in San Diego. So stop by our booth for your copy.
Where can you find us? We’re in a new spot this year: Booth # 2102 in the Independent Press section. We’re bringing all of your favorites: Spaceman Jax, Roger Believe, vintage ads from Bunchy, Oberpfaffendorfer and collectibles from Cudworth-Hooper. And of course, we’ll have Frank and His friend. Stop by and say hello!
We are also really excited to be organizing two panel discussions this year. On Thursday evening from 7-8 we’ll be talking with Kim Hutsell (Steampunk Designer and Prop Maker, Founder of the Annual Starburner Awards), Luke Khanlian (Design Engineer on the 10,000 Year Clock and Special Effects Creature Creator, Alien Resurrection, Starship Troopers, The Green Mile), and Peter Maresca (Editor, Sunday Press Books) about how real objects help flesh out an imaginary world at Genuine Fakes: Making the Artificial Real. Then on Friday afternoon from 3-4 we’ll be joined by Harold Buchholz (Senior Vice President Publishing & Operations, Archie Comic Publications, Inc.), Adam B. Finer (Chair of Industry Outreach & Professional Development, New York Film Academy), and Rich Johnston (Bleeding Cool) for a discussion on how American pop culture properties are perceived and consumed in US Pop Culture Abroad. Join us for these discussions – we’d like to hear from you!
Of course, the best part of comic-Con is catching up with good friends, so we hope you’ll stop by and say hi. We’re looking forward to seeing you soon!
