Previously unpublished works by Clarence 'Otis' Dooley
It was easy to love Frank and his Friend, with its ice cream smudged logic and playful escapism. The characters charmed their way into our hearts and influenced countless cartoonists. These 52 never-before-seen images provide a glimpse into the development of one of the most enduring comics and allow us to meet Frank and his Friend all over again.
The images, dating from the comic’s early years, were lost after Dooley’s untimely death in 1984. These drawings and illustrations, seen for the first time in over 30 years, reveal much of the journey Dooley took in creating our favorite characters.
Finding Frank and his Friend includes all the original sketches and final illustrations, with an introduction and commentary by leading Dooley scholar Melvin Goodge. The books are individually numbered as part of a limited edition print run of 2,000 copies. Each copy comes with a certificate of authenticity and a bonus, limited edition reproduction of an original Dooley drawing.
So break out your Frank doll (if you’re still lucky enough to have one), sit back in your favorite chair and enjoy your childhood – all over again.
