This image is from the permanent collection of the Mankowisz Museum of Comics and Animation, and was featured in the 2011 exhibition "Roughhousing: Clarence 'Otis' Dooley's Rough Sketches for Frank and His Friend, 1980-1984".  Staged in association with Curio & Co., the exhibition brought viewers as close as possible to Dooley's art.

With such interest in Dooley's work, Curio & Co. pushed for a higher quality production of postcards.  Printed on acid-free paper, these are more art print than postcard, making them some of the most affordable museum-quality prints available.

Frank and His Friend

Frank and His Friend was a popular newspaper comic in the late 1970s and early 1980s, featuring an inventive and enthusiastic unnamed child and his rag doll named Frank. The comic was created by Clarence 'Otis' Dooley and syndicated by Button Features. At its height of popularity, the characters graced everything from lunchboxes and t-shirts to bed sheets and wallpaper. In 1982, creator Clarence ‘Otis’ Dooley was even in negotiations with Benday Studios to bring Frank and His Friend to television sets in an animated series. (Although the deal ultimately fell through when the studio folded as a result of heavy investment into the North American laser disc market, much of the pre-production work still exists.)

The Mank Museum of Comics and Animation is one of the world's most prestigious museums for the popular arts, and holds among their collections important pieces by Clarence ‘Otis’ Dooley and drawings from p.u.d Film productions such as Spaceman Jax and the Galactic Adventures or Brigadier Buffalo.
