When you're a kid, grown ups tell you not to point because it's rude. That may be true (I'm not going to argue with Aunt Irene), but it's also pretty sophisticated. Just ask our other relatives - the primates. Chimpanzees in captivity use pointing as a gesture, much more often - and a little differently - than those in the wild. Maybe the chimps with human contact use it more often because we do? Perhaps that's why so many of the AZR-0 robots are shown with gestures that seem so similar to our own.
