Chia Pet (1982)

Ch-ch-ch-chia!

The Chia Pet is our favorite Pop Culture “Pet” by far, and it’s an easy guess that these terracotta figurines that grew their own hair have graced kitchen counters everywhere at one time or another.

Introduced in the late 1970s, Chia Pets hit the mainstream in 1982 with the Chia Ram.  Since then, over 45 different Chia Pets have been introduced, including cartoon characters such as Garfield, Scooby-Doo, Bugs Bunny and SpongeBob SquarePants.  The Chia Lincoln, honoring the 16th President doesn’t grow a Chia beard, for some reason.  (How did they miss that?)

Although I never could keep my Chia pet alive for very long, I think a little Chia Dinosaur might be just the thing the office needs.
