You can go home again

Finding Your Way Back

What brings you back home? The smell of grandma's cooking, a few notes of that commercial jingle, the feel of the paperback in your hands and you're right back there in your memory.

Yet, nostalgia for the past doesn't always mean that you're stuck. Sometimes looking back might just be the best way to move forward. It was for Clarence 'Otis' Dooley.

A Book by Any Other Name Would Smell as Sweet

Although there's no term for the specific smell that old books have, there is a very specific reason why they smell the way they do. What we smell is the cellulose and lignin in the paper breaking down. New paper has less lignin than old books, so perhaps future generations won't be able to enjoy that 'old book smell.'
