Hide and seek only works if someone agrees to do the seeking, and the AZR-0 robots we dreamed up appear to have skipped that page of the rulebook. In the imagined field notes of Verdie Z. Goodsey, the robologist at the heart of this collection, one robot hovers in full view while the others attempt the most casual of hiding, as though the whole delight were in being found. We understand the impulse. There’s joy to be found in a game where nobody really loses, and where the point is that someone eventually comes looking for you.
